Avoid 2011 Rate Hike Headaches with Accellos One Ship

One of the few elements of supply chain operations that has remained consistent is the steady increase in rates published by parcel carriers. Shipping is an essential part of your overall ability to serve your customers but with costs escalating, what is your organization doing to control costs while also meeting delivery expectations?

UPS, FedEx and USPS recently released their 2011 rate schedules and as expected, rates are on the rise again. UPS will be raising their rates a net 4.9% when the 2011 year commences. The net increase will be applied to all ground packages, air express, and U.S. international shipments. FedEx also announced a net 3.9% increase for 2011 while USPS’ aggregate increase across their products is 3.6%. With transportation costs on the rise, it behooves your organization to take steps to control your transportation costs by utilizing multiple carriers and by analyzing your freight spend to optimize carrier and service selection. With the right solution, your organization can rate shop across multiple carriers and service offerings to select the most economical option that meets your customer’s delivery requirements. Consider Accellos One Ship, Accellos’ shipping solution that was built specifically for Microsoft Dynamics. Accellos One Ship implemented by Impact WMS Solutions, LLC will help your organization reduce transportation and handling costs by improving shipping accuracy and streamlining the shipping and fulfillment process.

WMS TIPS and Tricks

WMS Tip: Save Disk Space by Turning off IIS Logging

(This information is intended for system administrators use at your own risk.)

We have worked with several Accellos One WMS client sites in the past that have reported problems related to insufficient disk space, and in a number of these cases we have found the culprit to be the use of Internet Information Services logging.  IIS logging can result in the accumulation of numerous log files and consume a tremendous amount of disk space — up to 18 GB in some reported cases.  For this reason, we recommend that IIS logging be turned off by following these steps:

1. In the Internet Information Services window, right-click on Default Website and click Properties.

iis1

2. On the Web Site tab of the Properties window, uncheck the Enable Logging checkbox.

iis2

3. On the Home Directory tab, uncheck the Log Visits checkbox.

iis3

4. Click OK.  If a window appears asking to apply to other nodes, click Select All, and then click OK.

iis4

The location of the log files is C:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\W3SVC1.  We recommend that you purge the log files from this folder if they are using a significant amount of disk space.

If you continue to use IIS logging, you should regularly purge this location as the available space on your C drive will be consumed unnecessarily; and if issues exist in the IIS environment the logs can become very large, very quickly.
